Each day we are building something. You may be building a business, a relationship, a network, or a family. You may be trying to do it all. The fact is that we as humans crave connection. It is wired into our DNA. We must build things in our lives in order feel fulfilled and live well.
This includes building you. You must build the inside of you in order to Grow as a person. Are you a wise? The Amplified version of Proverbs 14:1 says, “The wise woman builds her house [on a foundation of godly precepts, and her household thrives].” The next verse talks about the foolish woman who tears hers down by not following God.
What are you building? More than a physical house I think these verses speak to the condition of our hearts. Where is your heart right now? Are you building the connections you need to survive in business, in relationships, in life?
Recently I have been on a journey to discover how I work best in the marketplace and how I can make a real contribution to inspiring others to use their gifts, talents, and expertise to make a difference for Christ through their business. A couple of books that have been instrumental are Strengths Based Leadership by Tom Rath and The Marketplace Christian by Darren Shearer. (You can see these at the GFYO Store on my website.) What is interesting to me is how God has wired me to do what I need to do in just the way I need to do it.
The overlap in these two books is remarkable. My leadership strengths of Command, Focus, and Input directly correlate with my Spiritual giftings of Administration, Knowledge, and Teaching. God makes me laugh at times. It is all there, I just need to access it and learn to use it so it Grows. We are encouraged to live in our strengths. This is where you can shine and be used of God in a big way. Stop thinking that what you have to offer is not good enough or can’t compare with someone else. You are unique and God designed you to be light to specific people.
So, my question is . . . How are you building YOU? How are you tapping into the resources God has given you in order to Grow in your strengths and giftings? It won’t happen unless you make a plan and work on it. We cannot waste a moment of the life we have been given.
Here is a plan:
Read both books; do the assessments to discover your strengths & giftings; work on using those talents in your everyday; ask God continually for wisdom to exercise them; lead your life according to those strengths; and, serve others within your area of giftings.
