Working each day takes a great deal of your time. There is commute time, meeting time, project time, lunch time, more meeting time, and finally, quitting time. AND, though this is the bulk of your day you probably already started your day with breakfast time, lunch prep time, finding homework time, get them off to school time. . . have I missed anything? THEN, after work there is pick up time, dinner time, homework time, chore time and bedtime. It is an Extremely busy day. SO, when are you finding time to Serve God?
I just heard the SCREEEECH in your head. You know, that sound the needle makes over an old vinyl record. Remember? I caused your brain to cut short and pay attention. AND, you are thinking, “NO, not one more thing!”
Relax, what I am here to tell you is that you ARE Serving God. As a woman you have unlimited opportunities in your day to serve Him. Did you know? God has placed you in a unique position because you are working, own a business, and/or lead others. The way you show up to each of the ‘Times’ in your day can Serve others or it cannot. God calls us to love and honor others first. That doesn’t mean we do not take care of ourselves but it does mean showing Christ through our attitudes, authenticity, and caring.
God’s ‘Kingdom Work’ is varied and He calls individuals to do that which is unique to them. He has called you to the Marketplace because of your talents, skills, gifts, and expertise. You are the only one to Serve others in your day to day at that specific place. It is not about connecting to an outreach sponsored by your church. It IS about showing up each day to your job willing to show Christ through your actions and conversations.
What does that look like in your day to day? Well, let’s look at how you FIT into God’s kingdom and His work. Really it is about your ROLE that is unique to you.
The F in FIT is for Flair. The definition of flair is a natural ability to do something well. Some of the synonyms are Style, Aptitude, and Gift. You are exceptional, a one of a kind. God wants you to be your true self, not someone’s image of you or even someone you think you should be. You have something special that makes you the perfect person to do His work.
The I in FIT is for Individuality. This definition says, ‘a specific personality, character, or characteristic that distinguishes you from others’. Whoa! You need to grasp how special God made you. You are distinct from anyone who has ever lived or who will ever live. AND, He has called you to a specific job that is different from anyone else. He is shaping your character to be more like Him.
The T in FIT is for Timely. Again, you were born and live in this generation for His kingdom purpose. The profession/job you have is not a mistake. You are there to do the work, the calling, He has for you. Your service to coworkers, friends, and family belongs to you alone. God tells us that the ‘time is short’ and we are to make the most of each moment. Use you day-to-day moments to see God working through you.
So, what is this unique ROLE that you have that is for His kingdom.
R- Be the REAL you. Don’t try to be someone’s version of you. God wants to mold You more into His image so you shine for Him. Do it, every day, at home and in your job, while commuting and when having fun. See the people in your life as your ‘mission’. Share yourself, share Jesus, with them in ways that are natural and build relationships.
O- Be Obedient to Him. Have you ever thought/felt the Holy Spirit leading you to do something or say something? Don’t squelch those promptings. Ask God for the courage to act on them. He will not give you an assignment He has not equipped you to do. It is in the little things, the care and attention; you give someone that can show them, Jesus.
L- Love others. On our own, we are incapable of really loving others. Let’s face it, many people are not lovable. That coworker, that boss, that intern . . . you will have a different perspective on them and they will feel it. That’s where coming to God and filling up on Him each day and receiving His love will give you the power. You will show His love because it is flowing out of you. It will be easy.
E- You will have an Effect. You will have an effect on those around you. Each day you will make others stop and think about you. The way you interact with them will exert influence over them. AND, opportunities will open for you to share your faith.
That is your Kingdom Work. That is your place in His Work. I can help you discover this power by assessing your multiple intelligences, your learning style, your personality, and even your Spiritual preferences to create for you best practices to nurture this first relationship with God so you can fill up on Him. By developing your Personalized Faith Plan (PFP) you will know exactly what type of activities connect you to God through Marketplace Service. You will also be given activities to incorporate into your spiritual life that will make a real difference in your faith. No more guesswork, these activities are designed to grow your relationship with Christ in a manner true to how He has created you.
Galatians 5:13 (NLT) says, “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.”
Be free to express your Service for Him right where you are and with the talents and expertise He has given you. Remember, you may be the only Jesus someone ever sees. Live true to His calling.
