Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,
Proverbs 1:7
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
How are you working on your business? Are you in the hustle culture mindset? You know, going round and round trying to be all things to all people at all times? Jumping from project to project to see if one of your ideas will take off?
OR
Are you working your business in God’s wisdom culture? You know what you are doing is in His will. You have direction and feel secure enough to take a day off. And you have insight into what is the right thing to do.
Move into chokmah
Chokmah, a Hebrew word we translate to wisdom, has much more depth for us as Christian women entrepreneurs.
I want to help us get out of the hustle culture and get into the wisdom culture. So we’ll contrast three concepts to help you move into Chokmah.
To get out of the hustle culture, we’ll learn to go from:
- Reckless to Rest
- Reactive to Reflective
- Repetitive to Reframing.

God’s Wisdom
Chokmah! I’ll let you in on a secret. . . this is my new word for the year. Now you might ask, “Why not just use the word wisdom?” I’ll tell you. Chokmah means so much more than our modern English version of the word.
In the Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, it means five different things:
- Skill (in war)
- Wisdom (in administration)
- Shrewdness, wisdom (that means being clever)
- Wisdom, prudence (in religious affairs by having foresight)
- Wisdom (ethical and religious)
In our businesses, we need all these different levels of Chokmah.
Another definition says Chokmah stands for wisdom that works. Wisdom is the ability to see something from God’s viewpoint.
Let’s explore the contrasts so you can get out of the hustle culture and into God’s wisdom culture for your business.
Reckless hustle to wisdom rest
First is Reckless to Rest. Hustle culture is reckless. What I mean by this is that you are so busy doing so many different things you are acting recklessly with your time, energy, health, mental well-being, and more.
Be honest. What do your days look like? Are they jam-packed with activities? Are you trying to fit in one more thing? Do you feel like, for the most part, you are just always behind?
When hustle culture makes it feel like we are at war with our competition, we need this wisdom and skill to help us rise above and get out of the hustle culture.
Take your rest
Imagine resting to get out of the hustle culture. In God’s wisdom culture, you can have downtime. You trust God enough with your business to take a day off. Dare I say, 24 hours off from your business? An actual Sabbath!
I can hear you now. “I don’t have time to take an entire Sabbath!” That’s because you are working your business recklessly by trying to do everything you see others doing, chasing after shiny objects, and not taking the time to discern what is best for what God is calling you to do.
God’s wisdom culture business calls you to trust Him for your results and take your rest. I have this video to give you ideas about what to do when you take your rest.
Of course, you need to get your business into a place where you can know you are doing your best with your time. See the next contrast to get to that place.
Reactive hustle to wisdom reflection
The second contrast we’re going to look at is Reactive to Reflective.
When you are in the hustle culture, you are reactive to everything in your day. Your business seems to happen to you instead of you being in charge of your business.
Do you feel this way at times? Are you putting out client fires? Working on a never-ending list of tasks? And, seem to be drowning in requests for your time and attention?
Your business will NOT move forward unless you take the time to be reflective. That means taking time at least quarterly to plan. get out of the hustle culture that says, “take more on.” Instead, get into God’s wisdom culture that says, “become more strategic.”
This is where the admin wisdom, shrewdness, and prudence part of the Chokmah definition kicks in. As a result, you can run your business better. And you can only learn God’s point of view by studying His Word and spending daily time with Him.
Have you made this part of your daily routine? Do you have a focused time of study and prayer inside your planner?
REAP Bible study method
This is essential to building Chokmah and living in God’s wisdom culture. Not sure what to study or what the best study is for you? I have the REAP Bible study method to help you dive into any scripture. I suggest always choosing a book of the Bible and taking it in small chunks. One concept, story, or topic at a time.
Many versions are set up this way with bold headings within chapters. It is not about going fast. It is about going. God wants to meet with you. You can only gain wisdom and be transformed by Him when you know Him.
James 1:5 says,
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
By taking this daily time, you will start to see your business from God’s perspective. You will become more attuned to what is truly important in your business. You will take hold of the things that need to get done and be okay with letting go of all those things you thought were essential and needed your immediate attention.
Repeating hustle to wisdom reframe
The last contrast I want to talk about is Repeating to Reframing.
Are you guilty of this? Repeating the same behaviors, actions, and tasks and hoping this time will give you a new or different result? Insanity, right?
How many times have you posted on social media with no engagement? Did you launch a product or service only to have no one buy from you? Or have you sponsored events only to have nobody show up?
Stop. It is not about getting in front of more people. It is about getting in front of the RIGHT people. Those God is calling you to serve.
Get out of the hustle culture that says to dominate the space in any way you can. Instead, get into God’s wisdom culture that says to build relationships and provide solutions.
Get on board with God’s mindset
This means using that time with God to ask for wisdom and learn how to have the flexibility to reframe a situation and come up with a new solution. This is what experts call a growth mindset. I call it getting on board with God’s mindset.
The world’s idea of business is to dominate and be a shark in the water. God’s idea really aligns with service. If you have the mindset that your way is best and everyone needs to do it your way, you will keep repeating the same mistakes and not grow.
But, if you know you can take a step back, reframe a situation, and come up with a new approach, you will win. Win for your clients when you have a new idea, best for you when you can take a defeat and turn it into a triumph, and win for God, who gets all the credit.
Reframing exercise
- Think about the last action you know you have done more than once (just to see if it would work). It could be an event, a launch, or whatever.
- Sit down with your journal and write out what you did to try and make it happen. All the steps, marketing, inviting, all the activity you put effort into.
- Write out the results. What happened? Be specific.
- Now, pray. Ask God for Chokmah. His wisdom for insight, understanding, guidance, and discernment.
- Ask yourself (and God,) how this could look different. How can I do this differently by coming at it with a heart of service?
- Write out what God reveals to you. Then, do that new action next time.
Go from hustle to wisdom
Hustle culture tells you to work, work, work, and you will see results. God’s wisdom culture says to do a job well and gain more wisdom by continuing to do it.
We can have all the knowledge we think we need for our businesses from YouTube university and google searches, that is just head knowledge though, limited wisdom.
Real wisdom comes when we include our heart, our hands, and our habits too. God’s wisdom culture is the way He wants us to serve our ideal clients.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge (Chokmah), but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Don’t despise the discipline of God. He wants to take you from-
- Reckless to Rest, trust God to take your Sabbath
- Reactive to Reflective, meet daily with God for Bible study and prayer
- Repeating to Reframing, learn what it means to have God’s perspective
Chokmah, wisdom culture, is wisdom that WORKS for your business. What will change for you now that you know? Let me know in the comments. Will you get out of the hustle culture and move into God’s wisdom culture for your business? I can’t wait to know what sparked for you.
