What is it that you do? It can be your job, your business, your family, your . . . It is anything that makes up your day and requires your attention. So, Who are you? Do you identify with one part of your life more than another? Are you a bunch of different parts trying to be whole? Or, have you discovered your WHY?
Your WHY is the reason you do anything. In the Business world it is called a Value Proposition when speaking about your product or service. BUT, it is really your Core Value(s). Everything MUST/SHOULD point to your WHY, your Core Value(s). If it doesn’t feed your bottom line, who you are, don’t do it. That means you need a tool in order to Evaluate each part of your life. Does your job/business line up? Does your family life line up? Does your WHY come through in everything you do?
Okay, now you are saying, “How do I create this Core Value(s), this WHY?” Really, think about creating 3-5 Values that represent YOU. I have included a list of words to get you started. This is not an exhaustive list. In fact, one website has over 500 words to describe Values!

As a follower of Jesus I know that ultimately my Values come from God and that my job is to Glorify Him in all I do. So, having a tool like this helps me know my specific calling and the direction He wants to lead me.
Besides, What can Core Values do? Why is it important to have a WHY?
Core Values:
- Set a foundation
- Determine your priorities in advance
- Guide you through difficult decisions
- Influence how you interact with others
- Help you attract the right people into your life
- Prevent conflict and lessen those that arise
- Impact how you serve others
Let’s do this: Look at the list and choose 10 you like and that speak to you. From that list cut two that are nice but really don’t matter. Then from that list cut two that you could really live without. Next, look at the remaining six and determine which 3-5 are the ones you can definitely NOT live without. These are the words that someone would say about YOU. These are your Core Values.
With this list you are now armed to face the World. Your Work, your family, your life revolves around these Values. If an opportunity presents itself then you have a way of Evaluating if you should do it or not. If it lines up and you have the time, then Go For It. If it does not align with what you have determined are your Core Values, Let It Go.
These few Words become your WHY. It is the motivating factor for all you do. Your Words are different from everyone else’s. God has created you unique and He wants you to know your WHY so you can represent Him in your BEST Way. This is simple WORSHIP. Working in my WHY, in my Core Values, gives me freedom to show up as my Authentic Self. That is what God wants for me and for you; to know we are doing His Work in every part of our life.
1 Corinthians 10:31 says it perfectly, “So then, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Blessings,
Deneen
