Do you think that Serving God is only for when you are at church? Does volunteering on Sunday mornings, going to outreach projects, and bringing in Christmas boxes the only thing that is really Serving God? As a Business person you have opportunities ALL THE TIME to Serve others.
Let’s start with your attitude at work. How are you doing in this area? Are you constantly complaining about others in the office, or worse, the boss? Are you the person everyone avoids because you gossip and they are afraid you will talk about them? Think about it . . .
Hopefully this is not the case with you. I want to give you some strategic ways to Serve others without having to be involved at church on ‘their’ timetable. God has called you to the Marketplace and I know He has a job for you to do there. Let’s get started with a few ideas.
Prayer- You can PRAY for people in your sphere of influence. This can be family members, co-workers, your boss, a friend or anyone you feel ‘led’ to pray for. The idea though is to let them know you are Praying for them and also, ask if they have anything specific they want you to Pray about for them. Prayer is easy when it is for someone else. Here is a method for you:
To pray for a person, write their name on the page. Draw around it. Add color, if you want. Keep drawing as you release the person into God’s care.
Add other people to your drawing. Think of each stroke of your pen as a prayer for them. Take a breath or say “Amen” between each person.
Spending Time- Choose someone to Serve by spending some quality time, one-on-one. Get creative and devote time to novel ideas, music, or art. Give yourself opportunities with someone to browse a bookstore, visit a museum, or attend a concert. Use your creativity to celebrate and offer thanksgiving. Or, invite others for a meal and use the ‘good china’ or for an evening of games. Think of ways you can share your creativity with others.
Make sure that when you are ‘spending time’ with others you are mindful. That means you are in the present moment and you are 100% there with the people you are spending time with and they feel you there with them.
Small Gestures- This is a way of Serving others in the moment. Look for ways to help and Serve others each day. I like to say, ‘be the most helpful person in the room’. How would the situation be different if you took this initiative and found ways to Serve others from something as simple as getting coffee or water to sticking up for someone who is getting treated unfairly at a meeting. AND, at the end of the day, pause to reflect on or write down all of the help you have been able to give to other people. Be thankful that you see what needs to be done. It will inspire you to look for more ways to Serve.
God has called you to the Marketplace to be His LIGHT to others. Check your attitude, pray for those around you, invite others to spend time with you, and do little things that make them remember you. Oh yeah, when they ask WHY? Tell them about Jesus and He loves them.
Be filled to overflowing,
Deneen
