Running a business can be challenging, especially for us who are prioritizing God in every aspect of our lives. When the demands of entrepreneurship grow, it’s easy to push spiritual matters to the side, thinking, “I’ll focus on that later.”
However, integrating your faith into your business is not just an add-on; it’s essential to aligning with God’s will and calling for your life. In this blog I chat about some practical ways to keep God at the center of your business and show you from real research, Why it matters.
1. Start with Prayer
Prayer is the foundation of a Christ-centered business. Begin each day by seeking God’s guidance for your decisions, strategies, and interactions. This not only sets the tone for your day but also invites the Holy Spirit to lead you. Prayer can transform your business from a self-driven venture into a God-driven mission.
This is especially true for why to create a morning routine.
When we wake up in the morning, our brain gradually transitions from delta waves, which are dominant during deep sleep, to theta waves, which are present during the light stages of sleep and early wakefulness. This transition is crucial because it sets the stage for how we mentally and emotionally approach the day.
Delta Waves
Delta waves are slow brain waves that occur during the deepest stages of sleep. During this phase, the brain is in a restorative mode, focusing on healing and renewal. This is where your body and mind are rejuvenating, but it’s also a state of unconsciousness where you’re not processing the external world.
Theta Waves
As you start to wake up, your brain shifts into theta waves. Theta waves are slower than alpha waves, which dominate when you’re fully awake, but they’re faster than delta waves. This theta state is often associated with creativity, intuition, and a deeply relaxed yet alert mind. It’s also a state where your subconscious mind is highly active, making it a prime time for spiritual practices.
Harnessing Theta Waves for Spiritual Connection
The theta state, which naturally occurs as you transition from sleep to wakefulness, is an ideal time for engaging in prayer, meditation, and scripture reading. In this state, your brain is highly receptive, and the barriers between your conscious and subconscious mind are lower. This makes it easier to connect with God on a deeper level, as your mind is both relaxed and alert, open to receiving inspiration and guidance.
By starting your day with God during this theta state, you’re not only setting a spiritual foundation for the day but also enhancing your brain’s natural capacity for creativity, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.
This alignment of mind and spirit can lead to more intuitive decision-making, a greater sense of peace, and prioritizing God in your business.
2. Seek God’s Vision for Your Business
Understanding God’s vision for your business is crucial. It’s not just about making a profit or expanding your market share; it’s about fulfilling a purpose that goes beyond the bottom line. Spend time in prayer and reflection to discern what God is calling you to do through your business. Is it to serve a particular community, provide jobs, support missions, or have the impact He wants you to make? Whatever it is, let His vision shape your goals.
It can begin simply by just serving your clients with integrity and excellence. This means being honest in all dealings, delivering on promises, and striving for quality in your products or services.
The Bible teaches us to do everything as if we are doing it for the Lord (Colossians 3:23). When we operate with integrity and excellence, we not only honor God but also build trust with our clients, team members, and partners.
When you begin your day prioritizing God, engaging in prayer or meditation, you activate the brain’s prefrontal cortex, the area responsible for decision-making, focus, and self-regulation.
This early morning focus on God’s presence also helps to reduce stress and anxiety by calming the amygdala, the brain’s fear center, which can be overactive in entrepreneurs, in you, when dealing with high-pressure situations.
By starting your day by prioritizing God, you’re not only nourishing your spirit but also optimizing your brain’s performance, leading to clearer thinking, better decision-making, and a more positive outlook on the day ahead.
This holistic approach sets a strong foundation for success, aligning both your mind and spirit with God’s will for your business.
This is seen when. . .
Transitioning to Alpha and Beta Waves
As you fully wake up and begin your day, your brain shifts into alpha waves and then beta waves, which are associated with normal waking consciousness, focus, and active thinking. However, by having first engaged in spiritual practices during the theta state, you’re better prepared to move into the more active brainwave states with a sense of purpose, clarity, and calm.
This practice not only enhances your mental and emotional state but also sets a positive and grounded tone for your business activities. By harnessing the power of these early morning brain waves through connecting with God, you’re aligning both your mind and spirit, setting yourself up for a successful and fulfilling day.
3. Trust God in Every Season
Running a business involves seasons of both abundance and scarcity. There are times when everything seems to be falling into place, and other times when challenges appear overwhelming. Trusting God through these fluctuations is key to staying in His will.
In seasons of growth, it’s important to remain humble and remember that all blessings come from God. When challenges arise, instead of becoming anxious or discouraged, trust that God has a plan and a purpose even in difficult times (Romans 8:28). He may be teaching you something valuable or positioning your business for greater success in the future.
Learning to surrender control and trust that God is working behind the scenes helps you remain at peace, even in uncertain circumstances. Keep seeking Him in every season, and trust that His timing is perfect for your business and life.
Accountability
What has been beneficial for me, and I have seen it with my clients, is accountability. Accountability is essential for maintaining a business that’s aligned with God’s will. It’s easy to lose sight of your spiritual goals when you’re navigating the pressures of running a business, those ups and downs. Having trusted people who can offer guidance, support, and prayer helps keep you grounded in God’s principles.
Seek out Christian mentors, coaches, and a business group. These relationships provide the opportunity for regular check-ins, where you can share both your victories and challenges. When you’re accountable to others who share your faith, they can offer insights you might overlook, and help you remain focused on your calling, not just your bottom line.
Sabbath
Another important aspect to running a business is rest. As an entrepreneur, it’s tempting to be “always on,” constantly thinking about your business or checking emails. However, Sabbath rest is not only a biblical command (Exodus 20:8-10), it’s a vital practice for long-term success.
Observing the Sabbath allows you to pause, reset, and reconnect with God and loved ones. It’s a time to reflect on His goodness and provision, trusting that your business doesn’t depend on your endless hustle, but on His grace.
From a practical standpoint, taking a day of rest each week refreshes your mind and body. Brain studies show that stepping away from work and allowing your brain to rest can enhance creativity and problem-solving skills. When you return to work after a Sabbath, you are often more focused and energized, with new ideas and perspectives that can help move your business forward.
Prioritizing God – Your Turn
Prioritizing God in your business is not about compartmentalizing your faith but allowing it to permeate every aspect of your work. When you align your business with God’s will, you not only find purpose and fulfillment but also experience His blessings in ways you could never imagine. By putting God first, you ensure that your business is not just a means to an end but a living testimony of His grace and goodness.
When you start your day with God, engage in prayer, and seek His vision for your business, you’re tapping into a source of wisdom and guidance far beyond your own understanding. This divine connection enables you to make decisions that are not only good for your business but also honor God’s greater plan.
Staying accountable through mentors or Christian business groups helps you remain aligned with God’s will, providing the support and wisdom needed to navigate challenges. These relationships remind you that you’re not walking this journey alone but are part of a community that shares your faith and values.
