Worship is defined as focusing on and acknowledging God’s worth. Many times we talk about Worship as being one thing, Music. So, how do you focus on and acknowledge God as an act of Worship? Let’s start with Sunday morning. Here is the perfect (or the supposedly perfect) atmosphere for Worship. BUT, we come into our environment having just fought with the kids in the car, feeling like we didn’t fit into any of our clothes that morning, and thinking ahead to where we will eat after. Have you been there?
If Worship is true Focus on God then we have to halt all other activity. What a relief! We CAN and SHOULD redirect our minds to One Thing, GOD. Brain experts say that when you are trying to remember something to tell someone, or wanting to retrieve an item and you walk through a doorway to either pick up the item or tell the person, you are likely to forget why you came into the room. Has that happened to you? It is because as you pass through the threshold your brain refreshes. As you walk into your Worship Center, REFRESH.
I am allowing you, No, I am giving you permission to let go for an hour and Worship Him. Use this time to center on Him and allow Him to restore you. Feel His presence as the music plays, learn of Him through the teaching, drink in and fill up on Him. The Father does not expect you to run on Spiritual dehydration. He gives each of us this day to specifically Glorify Him by standing, sitting, presenting ourselves to Him with our entire being. Jesus states in Mark 12:30 the correct answer to the question of what is MOST important: “And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.”
Let’s look at that. Worship God with all your Heart. . . This takes some self-reflection. The Bible tells us that our hearts are wicked. Even Paul laments when he says in Romans 7 that even when he wants to do good, he fails. We put ourselves up to impossible standards. It is not about outward actions but our inward Worship of God. Examine your heart. What are you keeping back from Him? Where are you not trusting Him? Confess those things that are robbing you of true Worship to Him. He is strong and wants to be there for you in every way.
Worship God with all your Soul. . . The Soul can mean different things. We all want to be politically correct about things these days and not talk about life-after-death; but the truth is your Soul is the only thing that lasts for eternity. Your Soul makes up your essence, who you are. It holds your values, beliefs, and integrity. By focusing on God in Worship you are honing those core elements of your being to be in-line with Him. That’s where the peace of God can and will be present in your life.
Worship God with all your Mind. . . This is where the true battle for YOU takes place. Your intellect, reasoning, and creativity are used to guide you to Christ or away from Him. We are attacked here more than anywhere else by the enemy. Satan wants us to ‘think’ we can do life on our own. He wants us to doubt God’s love for us. He tries everything in his arsenal to distract us from Worship. (Because he knows that when you are ‘mindful’ of God you will be ignoring him.) Taking every thought captive and turning it into a prayer is the way to victory and Worship of God.
Worship God with all your Strength. . . Worship with your actions, attitudes and choices. This outward display of Worship can only happen authentically if the inside transformation is happening. Did you notice that Jesus said: Heart (emotions); Soul (values); and Mind (wisdom) first? It is all about working on the number one personal relationship with Him. Once that is in the right place and Growing, only then will the Strength, the outside expression of Worship, be true.
Acknowledging and focusing on God’s Worth. That definition must move beyond Sunday morning. It must turn into a daily attitude of Worship. It is a continuous awareness of Him working in your life. It is giving gratitude for each moment and seeing ‘God moments’ in every encounter throughout your day. It is thinking about Him, relying on Him, and knowing He is there. Remember, it is not about a song (though listening to Christian music can be satisfying) it is about that ‘Song’ being in you.
There is a hymn that says, “He put a song in my Soul today, a song of Praise, Hallelujah.” That is where we need to be! The song should be coming out of us, out of our lives. Do you see the turnaround? Only by connecting to His super-abundance through Worship can you sing that song.
Busy Wise Woman, When will you re-prioritize and do what you know you need? To fill up on God first so that the other parts of your life are more productive. Drink from Him through Worship (focus on Him alone). Turn over your Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength to HIM and your life will be transformed.
Are you ready? Do you want the MOST out of your life? Then place the order God, Family, Others (including work) and it will happen. By assessing your multiple intelligences, your learning style, your personality, and even your Spiritual preferences I can create for you best practices to nurture this first relationship with God so you can listen to Him every day. By developing your Personalized Faith Plan (PFP) you will know exactly what type of activities connect you to God through Worship. You will also be given activities to incorporate into your spiritual life that will make a real difference in your faith. No more guesswork, these activities are designed to grow your relationship with Christ in a manner true to how He has created you.
1 Peter 3:15 (NLT) says, “. . . you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” Do the inside work through Worship and you will be ready to share His hope with others.
