You still believe.
You still care about God.
But lately… you feel distant.
Disconnected.
Maybe even numb.
And what makes it harder is that you can’t fully explain why.
Because from the outside, your life may still look “fine.”
- You may still be praying sometimes.
- Listening to worship music.
- Going to church.
- Trying to stay faithful.
But internally?
Something feels off.
And usually when that happens, we assume:
“I just need to try harder.”
“I need to be more disciplined.”
“I need to get back on track.”
But what if feeling far from God is not always a sign that you’re failing spiritually?
What if sometimes it’s a sign that something about the way you’re trying to connect with Him… no longer fits the season you’re in?
That’s what we’re talking about today.

WHEN YOUR FAITH STARTS FEELING HEAVY
I think a lot of Christian women quietly carry guilt around this.
Because no one wants to admit:
“I don’t feel close to God right now.”
Especially if you’re someone who genuinely loves Him.
But spiritual disconnection is more common than people realize.
And honestly?
I think many women are exhausted from trying to force themselves into faith routines that no longer fit their life.
It reminds me a lot of fitness.
There are people who truly want to be healthy…
but they keep trying workout plans that don’t fit:
- their body,
- their schedule,
- their season,
- their energy,
- or even how they naturally function.
Eventually they stop.
Not because they hate health.
But because the system itself became unsustainable.
For example, because of my MS, I can’t do intense HIIT workouts or hard cardio the way some people can.
That doesn’t mean I don’t value movement or health.
It just means I’ve had to learn what actually works with my body instead of constantly fighting against it.
For me, walking has become one of the best forms of movement.
And honestly?
I think faith can feel the same way sometimes.
Not because you stopped loving God…
but because the way you’ve been trying to connect with Him no longer feels life-giving.

THIS MAY NOT BE A DISCIPLINE PROBLEM
And I know that can sound strange at first.
Because we’ve often been taught that if we feel disconnected from God, the answer is always:
- do more,
- pray more,
- try harder.
Now, am I saying spiritual habits don’t matter?
Of course not.
But I am saying that consistency alone cannot fix misalignment.
Because if something doesn’t fit your season, your wiring, or your capacity right now…
eventually it starts feeling heavy instead of life-giving.
And that’s where many women get stuck.
Not because they don’t care.
But because they keep trying to reconnect with God in ways that may work beautifully for someone else… but don’t naturally fit them.
Because when faith practices fit your real life and the way God designed you…
they become far more sustainable.
Not perfect.
Not effortless.
But life-giving enough to return to consistently instead of constantly starting over.
GOD DIDN’T CREATE EVERYONE TO CONNECT THE SAME WAY
One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the years is that God created people uniquely on purpose.
Some people naturally connect deeply with God through:
- reflection and emotion,
- beauty and meaning,
- study and understanding,
- movement, serving, and action.
But many women have only been shown one model for faith growth.
For example:
- sit quietly for long periods of Bible study,
- follow the exact same devotional structure every day,
- wake up early for extended quiet time,
- journal in a certain way,
- or engage with God primarily through reading and sitting still.
Now, those practices can be beautiful and life-giving for some people.
But they are not the only ways someone can meaningfully connect with God.
And when women try to force themselves into rhythms that don’t naturally fit their season, personality, or design… eventually faith can start feeling heavy instead of relational.
So when that model stops working…
they assume they are the problem.
And that’s one of the reasons I created the Faith Shape Quiz.
Because sometimes the issue isn’t that your faith is weak.
Sometimes you simply haven’t understood how God naturally designed you to connect with Him.
The quiz may help put words to things you’ve been feeling for a long time.
Because I truly believe God’s design for your life includes how you grow spiritually, not just what you believe.
And that changes everything.

START SMALL — NOT PERFECT
If you feel far from God right now, I do not want your first reaction to be:
“I need to overhaul my entire spiritual life.”
That usually creates more pressure… not more connection.
Instead:
start small.
Start with one simple point of reconnection that feels natural and life-giving.
For some women, that may look like:
- worship music while driving,
- honest journaling prayers,
- taking a reflective walk,
- studying one meaningful verse deeply,
- or praying while doing something active with your hands.
The goal isn’t performance.
The goal is reconnection.
Because healthy faith rhythms are not about proving yourself to God.
They are about creating space to remain connected to Him in a sustainable way.

YOU MAY NOT BE AS FAR AS YOU THINK
And I really want someone listening today to hear this:
Feeling far from God does not automatically mean you’ve failed.
- Sometimes you’re simply exhausted.
- Sometimes your season has changed.
- Sometimes life became so full, so mentally heavy, or so emotionally demanding that your old ways of connecting with God no longer fit naturally into your days.
And sometimes that distance shows up quietly.
You still believe.
You still love God.
But:
- prayer starts feeling forced,
- Bible study feels harder to focus on,
- you keep avoiding the very things that used to help,
- or you feel guilty every time you think about your faith life.
Not because you don’t care…
but because something about the rhythm itself no longer feels sustainable.
And sometimes what needs to shift isn’t your love for God… but your approach to connecting with Him.
You may not be as far from God as you think.
You may simply need a different starting point.
One that fits the season you’re in…
and the way God uniquely designed you to grow.
And if this has resonated with you, I want to invite you to take the free Faith Shape Quiz.
It will help you begin understanding how you naturally connect with God and why certain faith practices may feel more life-giving than others.
And if you want deeper help creating a simple faith rhythm that actually fits your life, I also host a live workshop called:
Why You Keep Starting Over in Your Faith
If this encouraged you today, let me know in the comments:
Have you ever gone through a season where your old faith routines just stopped fitting your life?
I’d love to hear from you.
Be filled to overflowing,
