Running a business is challenging, but for Christian entrepreneurs, it’s also an opportunity to honor God and make a meaningful impact on others and culture. A strong business plan is essential for any successful business, including a Christian business, and serves as a roadmap for achieving your goals and ensuring that your operations align with your mission and values.
By putting God first, your business plan can reflect this priority by integrating faith-based principles with sound business strategies. Today, we’ll discuss some key strategies to help you succeed in business while positively influencing the culture and lives around you.

Ground your business in Biblical principles
The foundation of our Christian businesses must be rooted in biblical principles. This means putting God first and prioritizing honesty, integrity, and fairness in all our actions and relationships.
Colossians 3:23, says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” This verse keeps us focused on pleasing God, not trying to ‘live up’ to someone else’s expectations of us.
By integrating biblical principles, you create a business that honors God and attracts like-minded individuals as well as those clients God has ordained for you. As a Christian business leader, your actions set the tone for your business. Model Christ-like behavior in your interactions, decisions, and leadership style.
Your integrity, humility, and servant leadership can inspire your team, your clients, and those you do business with. By leading with a Christ-centered approach, you create an environment where others are encouraged to follow suit.
Business mission statement
This foundational approach should be clearly articulated in your business plan through your business’s Mission Statement, ensuring that all strategic decisions are aligned with your faith-based values.
Practically, this could mean you have put policies in place to provide:
- immediate refunds for overpayments or
- informing clients directly when time frames for projects need to be adjusted and correcting the invoices to reflect those changes or
- going the extra mile to provide excellent customer service.
These types of actions influence how others perceive you and your business and how often they refer you to others.

Prioritize prayer and seek God’s guidance
Prayer is a powerful tool for seeking God’s direction in your business decisions. Regularly pray for wisdom, discernment, and guidance in all aspects of your business, from strategic planning to daily operations.
I call this the daily meeting with the CEO (Chief Everything Officer). You need to meet with the Boss every day.
Proverbs 3:5-6 directs us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
This practice aligns your business with God’s Will and provides peace and clarity in your decision-making process. It’s important to incorporate these regular prayer sessions and reflection times into your business plan to keep your focus on God’s guidance and practice putting God first.
When this daily practice becomes part of your daily routine, you will find that praying for the well-being of your team members and clients and asking God for wisdom and discernment for those business decisions brings peace and confidence to everything you do.
Sharing your faith
Do not shy away from sharing your faith through your business either. Whether through your mission statement, marketing materials, or personal interactions, let others know that your business is built on Christian values.
Your testimony can inspire others and open doors for meaningful conversations about faith. Remember, Jesus has given us the job of making disciples. That is our highest priority. Include how you will communicate your faith and values to others in your business plan.
These ways to communicate may include:
- making it known that prayer is a crucial component of your decision-making strategy or
- asking others how you can pray for them or
- inviting someone to lunch and sharing your faith story.
Having ideas written in your business plan ensures that these important values are not overlooked.

Cultivate a Christ-centered work ethic
Creating a work environment for yourself, your team, and your clients that reflects Christ’s mandate to love others can have a profound impact.
In a business context, this translates to exceptional customer service and promoting a team culture of respect, compassion, accountability, and generosity. Go the extra mile to serve your clients and team members with excellence and care. By showing genuine concern for others, you reflect Christ’s love and positively affect those around you.
This could be as simple as encouraging open dialogue about faith and creating opportunities for team members and clients to grow spiritually and professionally. From praying before meetings to providing Bible study sessions, you can inspire others to integrate their faith and work, thus creating a strong sense of community and support for those you influence.
Your business plan should detail strategies for excellent customer service and specific ideas that promote spiritual growth, accountability, and fellowship among team members and clients.
Specifically, this could include:
- complimentary ‘extras’ in your service that make customers feel appreciated or
- providing personal development training or
- developing a comprehensive onboarding experience.
These actions create a strong sense of belonging for your clients and community and support for your team, leading to more satisfaction and loyalty.

Create a Christ-centered business plan for putting God first
Crafting a business plan that incorporates your faith-based principles is essential for guiding your business toward success while positively impacting others and culture.
The basic structure of your business plan serves as a framework that reflects your Christian values and provides a roadmap for your business’s survival and growth.
This can all be done with a one-page business plan.
Start with writing out the answers to the following questions:
- What problem do you solve, and how are others solving it already?
- Who is your ideal client, and how many potential clients do you already have in your following?
- What are your marketing channels based on your following? Where are you contacting them, and how are you building relationships?
- What is your solution to the problem, and how does it benefit your ideal clients?
- How is your solution unique from those already in the market because of how God has created you?
- What is your unfair advantage over your competition, that ‘thing’ you offer that is hard to copy?
- How will you deliver your solution, what will it include?
You also need to know your metrics—the key measurements that will help you determine whether you are being successful. And you need to know your costs for doing business.
