The HSMS Model™ I’ve created reveals how you are naturally wired to experience God and grow in faith. It helps you see that your faith journey isn’t about copying others—it’s about moving through the framework in a way that fits you.
The four areas of the HSMS Model™ are:
- Heart – Engaging with God through emotions, relationships, and personal experiences.
- Soul – Experiencing deep spiritual connection through worship, stillness, and inner reflection.
- Mind – Seeking God through knowledge, study, and understanding of Scripture.
- Strength – Living out faith through action, service, and applying God’s Word.
Before diving into how this framework shapes your identity in Christ, it’s important to recognize that identifying your leading order within this model is just the first step.
Each area of the framework plays a role in shaping your faith journey, and understanding how they interact, or stack up, will give you the clarity and confidence to embrace your unique path to spiritual growth.
How does this shape your identity in Christ
First, it is about understanding your leading order when talking about the heart, soul, mind, and strength. While your primary leading is the most natural way you connect with God, the other three—secondary, insight, and aspiration—are just as crucial in shaping a well-rounded spiritual identity.
- Secondary Leading reinforces and strengthens your primary way of growing in faith.
- Insight Leading offers new perspectives that help deepen your spiritual understanding.
- Aspiration Leading challenges you to grow in areas that may feel less natural but are essential for a complete faith journey.
Without recognizing all four, you risk either staying in a comfort zone without growth or feeling frustrated by practices that don’t align with how God designed you. A complete Faith Framework ensures you build a strong, personalized, and evolving relationship with God.
Each of us has a primary, secondary, insight, and aspiration leading, which determines our unique Faith Framework. For example, as an INTJ (in the Myers-Briggs), my leading order is Soul, Mind, Heart, Strength. This means:
- Soul (Primary Leading): I grow best through deep, personal reflection and intimacy with God.
- Mind (Secondary Leading): Studying Scripture and gaining knowledge strengthens my faith. (talk here about showing the world this one and how it never felt complete)
- Heart (Insight Leading): Learning to engage emotions and relationships enhances my connection with Christ.
- Strength (Aspiration Leading): Taking action and serving others is an area of growth for me.
By recognizing this pattern, I can stop striving in areas that don’t come naturally and focus on the way God designed me to grow. Instead of forcing myself into someone else’s faith practice, I move through my own Faith Framework, growing deeper and seeing my identity in Christ more clearly.
Building Your Faith Portrait
Think of this model as a portrait of your spiritual growth. Each of the four areas represents a corner of the frame, and as you move through them, you create a complete picture of your faith journey.
- You start with what is natural (your primary leading).
- You reinforce it with what is supportive (your secondary leading).
- You gain deeper understanding through insight (your third leading).
- You complete the picture by growing in your aspiration (your final leading).
This process eliminates identity confusion because it shows you exactly how you were designed to connect with God. No more wondering if you’re doing it right—instead, you embrace who you are in Christ and how He created you to grow.
