Imagine with me a three-tiered fountain. The top of the fountain has the smallest cup. This is where you can see the water bubble up through as if fills the cup. Next, the water begins to overflow into the next cup. This one is larger and takes more time to fill up as it gets water from the top. At the bottom is a still bigger cup that without the continuing water flowing down from above would never be filled.
I love watching all types of fountains. It is calming to watch the water, spout, pour, fill, spill, and change as it moves over the structure. It is sad to see a fountain that is dry, cracked, and no longer functional. The beauty of the shape may still be there but when it doesn’t work correctly it is no longer of any use.
How is your life fountain? I see you as the top cup of the three-tiered fountain. This is the first place you need to show up to fill up. You are a physical, intellectual, and spiritual being. Are you filling up YOU first?
Many times, we have our fountains up-side-down. We think our business, volunteering, and networking are what fills us up. We try to fill the largest cup first and then spill over to our families, closest friends, and spouses. By the time we get to the smallest cup, ourselves, there is nothing left. We are barely surviving because we are dehydrated.
Have you felt like this? Have you come to the end of your day or your week and think, “What did I do?” It is a blur of activity that might have been productive, or maybe not. You just don’t remember. I could tell you to take things off your plate (I am sure you have heard that before) but that would only be a water bottle solution when you need a water source.
First, I want you to see your fountain in your mind and turn it up the right way. Place the small cup back on top and arrange it so it is ready to receive water. Don’t worry that there are cracks, they will fix themselves as you fix you. Once that is done you can start to fill up from the inside, see the water coming up through you.
What activities do you need to do to fill up first? Physically, eat well and exercise. Get good sleep and get enough. Intellectually, read a book or listen to a podcast. Take a class or join a meet-up that interests you. Spiritually, plan a time each day to read the Bible and pray. Find your unique way to spend time with God.
Only by filling up yourself each day can you overflow in your life without dehydration. You give your best self to others when you allow the Source to fill you up. Your priorities begin to align with God’s bigger plan for you. And, you find your ‘sweet spot’ for connecting your faith and business.
Start today. Turn the fountain up and begin to fill it with the things you need to overflow well. Get connected to the water Source.
Be filled to overflowing,
Deneen
