God has called us to run the race. Are you running well? Have you been ‘training’ to improve your business and life? Most importantly, are you working “on purpose” to show His goodness and share Jesus with others in the marketplace?
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
How can personal mastery help you run the race to WIN? By giving you the tools necessary to get disciplined and stay disciplined. Not only in your business life but in your faith life as well.
This is important to God. He is transforming you into His Son’s image and doing it through your business. So how you show up each day says a lot.
We’ll look at twenty benefits of personal mastery and give you personal mastery strategies to help you grow your business as you grow in God.

Why Personal Mastery to grow your business
I wanted to address the topic of personal mastery because I continually meet Christian businesswomen and entrepreneurs like you who are striving to build a successful business and are struggling to keep up with the demands of life and grow a successful business. In addition, I meet women stuck at an intersection and unsure what God is calling them to do next.
What does this have to do with personal mastery? Well, I find that these same women are striving in the wrong areas. They think it is about learning more, finding the right tactic, having more luck, or utilizing a quick fix.
And, there are so many ideas out there (that actually conflict with one another) that it is challenging to decide what to do next, so they are stuck in indecision, afraid to move, and simply confused about what God is calling them to do.
Do you find yourself in this position? The answer is personal mastery. That’s right, your discipline. I know you don’t want to hear it, but it is so true.
Benefits of Personal Mastery
There are so many benefits to personal mastery. I could LIST them all out for you but let’s put them into context.
God has given you purpose through your business
God has allowed things to happen in your life that have brought you to this point so you can live out that purpose. When you understand that God has created you uniquely to do the ‘good works,’ He planned for you (Ephesians 2:10).
The benefit of knowing your purpose allows you to:
- Align your priorities
- Remove any guilt
- Perform better
- Feel fulfilled
God the CEO of your life and business
Another benefit to personal mastery is through partnering with God. Make God the CEO (chief every officer) of your life and business. That means aligning with Him for your success. He wants you to focus on doing those ‘good works’ He planned for you by getting things off your plate and having more focus. You can know this by spending time with Him. Bible study and prayer are essential.
When you are partnering with God, you benefit by being able to:
- Raise your standards
- Build personal character
- Express authentic gratitude
- Deepen your faith-life
Access God’s power
One thing you have available to you is power. God gives you the Holy Spirit to be with you and guide you. He is God’s presence inside of you. This power is to accelerate your spiritual growth. Through studying God’s Word and prayer, you have intimacy with God. Only when you first have the vertical relationship right can you hope to have the horizontal relationships working in your favor. The Holy Spirit helps you to do the right thing, take the right steps, and feel God working through you.
The benefits to accessing this power are that you can:
- Resist temptation
- Overcome obstacles
- Develop tenacity
- Gain self-control
God has a plan for you, so be intentional about your time
This next set of benefits comes through planning. God has a plan for you and wants you to plan it carefully. God doesn’t want you just to do random things. He wants you to use all the tools and resources God has provided to be the best you can be, and He wants to use your business as your way to serve Him. Your business exists to solve someone’s problem.
The benefits of planning allow you to:
- Save time
- Be focused
- Clarify goals
- Complete tasks
How God’s blessings come in many forms
The last set of benefits I want to talk about is about prospering. Prospering in God’s economy means you are satisfied with what you are doing and find fulfillment, energy, and meaning in your business. God wants you to be more like His Son, Jesus. God is on your side and will give you exactly what you need to feel His peace and trust in Him.
God’s blessings come in many forms and are always exactly what you need. You will succeed when you work in His will to prove you are one of His chosen (2 Peter 1:10).
The benefits of prospering with this mindset mean you start:
- Eliminating stress
- Boosting your health
- Improving relationships, and
- Generating more happiness.
How to make the benefits of personal mastery part of your life
Wow, this is a list! Twenty benefits to personal mastery. Which do you wish were in your life right now? How can they become a part of your life? The simple answer is discipline. How can that happen? By having a routine and sticking to it.
As believers in Jesus, we are to grow in the Fruits of the Spirit. What are they? Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Personal mastery is not just about that last one (self-control), though it is a ‘biggy.’ It is the core of showing up and displaying each of these virtues. Personal mastery does not come overnight. It also does not just come without effort.
Remember what Paul said in 1 Corinthians, I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.
A tool to start a routine
Creating a routine gives you a way of completing things more quickly because you have to think through a plan, write it down (yes, this step is important), and then follow through.
So, where do we start with this discipline, this routine? I have a tool for you. It is a personal challenge called the 5-Day PMP (personal mastery plan) Challenge.
It is designed to get you thinking through and doing specific actions during the next five days that will jump-start you into the benefits of personal mastery so you can see all those benefits in your life and business.
There are activities to boost your health, deepen your faith, express more gratitude, improve your relationships, and clarify your goals. From there, you can create the right routine for yourself to benefit from what personal mastery brings to your life and business.
God’s help to realize the benefits of Personal Mastery
Aristotle, Plato, and other big thinkers supported four virtues when dealing with humanity and, importantly, in business. . .they are- love unconditionally, honesty and faithfulness to show integrity, gentleness characterized by choosing to be kind, and supportiveness without expectation.
These philosophers spout that these virtues are things we can learn and practice in our strength. However, I have found that I cannot do any of these things without the help of the Holy Spirit.
God calls us to more (remember, there are nine Fruits of the Spirit) and has equipped you and me to succeed in our businesses by growing to be more like His Son. So the question is, Are you growing your business by first growing your faith? Do you understand that by having personal mastery, you are being transformed into what God has called you to be?
Remember, personal mastery starts with a decision to do what God asks you to do. Are you ready for the adventure?
