Clarify My Calling

Do More or?

We are busy women.  Often living in perpetual motion. Our daily lives consist of many things that we feel must get done, and often, we don’t get it all done.  Leaving us feeling unsatisfied and unfulfilled.  Often women say,

“I need help to clarify my calling. I have so many good ideas, I don’t know which one to do first!”

Keeping you busy and in motion is a tactic of the enemy to make you unfocused and confused.  The world tells you to “DO MORE!” but God tells us, “For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Clarify My Calling and Help Me Focus

God has given you a specific assignment, a CALLING. It is specific to you. Your first responsibility is to take time with Him to listen and hear what He wants you to do.  Focus on Him instead of:

• Thinking about all the “shoulds,”
• Listening to what others are telling you to do,
• Paying attention to what the world thinks we need or must-have.

Instead, think of that one thing you would LOVE to do.  What pulls at your heart and bounces around in your head?  Focus on the thing God wants you to do.  As an entrepreneur, working woman, or busy mom, you need to stop and focus.

You can align all of your roles, family, work, and other activities with your values with focus. See your family, work, or business as your CALLING. God has placed you where you are right now for a specific reason-don’t fight it-work with it!

Don’t separate your life in silos, jumping from one activity to the next.  The lie is that your life has a secular part and a sacred part. That somehow, you MUST keep the two separated. God wants you to be WHOLE. Living a seamless life, where you show up in any situation as YOU. See your life as a whole and your family and work your SERVICE, then you have the focus to do more for God.

Focus begins with God in your heart and a journal in hand

With paper and pen or pencil in hand, follow these steps (even if it is five minutes):

1. Ask God to come into your focus time,
2. Write down three to five things that are important to you—the things you most value in your life,
3. Make a list of all the things you are doing outside of your work and family responsibilities,
4. Circle any activities that reflect an extension of your work or family, and
5. From those activities, draw a line from each to the value it exemplifies.
6. Only items that can be legitimately connected to your values stay on your list,
7. Start to remove all the other activities from your life.

It may take many sessions before you get it all out. Be patient with yourself and the process.

Make More of an Impact

By cleaning out your ‘busy’ life, you will make room to make MORE of an impact on your sphere of influence.  Making more of an impact means doing something great for God, yourself, and your sphere of influence.

I am permitting you to say NO and to QUIT. I am giving you permission to spend time with your family, to stay home in the evening, not to volunteer your Saturday away, and to focus on what God wants you to do.

Jesus promised that your life in Him would be easy.

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

Being close to Jesus does not mean signing up for every volunteer opportunity and run yourself ragged. It means asking Him what the next step is in your work and life. Take time to listen to the Father instead of all the SHOULDs. Follow your true values, those things most important to you. Find the way to SERVE God through that, and you will have focus, feel more fulfilled, and show His goodness in the overflow that happens.
